This course aims to help dentists better understand and apply the various treatment options applicable for the terminal dentition and edentulous arches. The course will encompass all scenarios ranging from retaining teeth to situations of edentulousness necessitating implant-over dentures, removable-fixed bars and implant-supported fixed full-arch bridges. The hands-on component will address key areas such as impressions and scanning. Case presentations and examples will be included to improve delegates' understanding of the various treatment scenarios. At the end of the program, participants will be confident in their treatment planning and implementation processes and offer the appropriate options to their patients.

Major lecture topics:

  • Failing dentition - at the crossroads
  • Failing dentition - Holding back the tide (non-implant options)
  • Implants: the good, the bad and the ugly
  • Removable dentures - implant retained vs implant-supported over dentures
  • Fixed implant-supported prosthesis

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of the program participants should be able to:

  • Adequately manage the terminal dentition
  • Understand the transition from dentures to implants
  • Broaden your understanding of the treatment options for the edentulous arch
  • Outline the difference between and rationale for fixed and removable options
  • Present the risks benefits and long-term outcomes of each treatment modality
  • Discuss the aetiology of failure of each option and methods to help prevent them
  • Help participants achieve an in-depth understanding of their treatment choices and plan their cases confidently.

Program Delivery:

  • Online web lectures via Learning Management System, Canvas.
  • Face-to-Face hands-on session to be held on Monday 13 October 2025 at the Melbourne Dental School, Ground Floor, Preclinical Laboratory 723 Swanston Street, Carlton Vic 3053.

IMPORTANT: Please note, the online content for this program, must be completed in full before attending the face-to-face hands-on sessions at the Melbourne Dental School. Lecture topics will be relased in sections beginning May, followed by an August and September release. Enrolled participants will be notified as each section is avilable.

 

 

Dr Kirthi Kosalram graduated in 2000 and received her Doctorate in Prosthodontics (DCD) from the University of Sydney (2013). She went on to teach Prosthodontics at the Universities of Melbourne and Sydney. Kirthi is a fellow of the RACDS, an active member of ICP, MRACDS (Pros), AOS, APS and the ITI. Kirthi practices in Kew, Victoria, is an ITI Fellow and was recently appointed ITI Victorian Education delegate.

Dr Loula Konidaris B.D.Sc. Master of Health and Medical Law (Uni Melb), Professional consultant/Community Relations Officer ADAVB Loula has been working in general practice dentistry for over thirty- five years and continues to do so two days a week as well as her role as a professional consultant/CRO at the ADAVB for another two days a week. At the ADAVB Loula handles calls from Members and the public regarding enquiries or complaints with treatment, seeking second opinions,  technical queries about treatment, as well as general support  Loula also assists members with defending claims, responding to AHPRA or HCC notifications, insurance audits along with numerous regulatory and indemnity matters. Ethics and general counselling to members is also a big part of Loula’s role at the ADAVB

Nova Gibson graduated from the University of Melbourne in Dentistry and Medicine with honours and trained in the Victorian Oral and Maxillofacial training program – gaining fellowship in 2007 plus fellowship in Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons, England. She spent eight years training in the Victorian Oral and Maxillofacial surgical training program at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Monash Hospital, the Austin and Alfred Hospital along with five years training in the UK, including the prestigious John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford as a fellow. Since completing training, Nova’s career has included working at the Austin Hospital, Monash Health as well as private practice. Her areas of interest include dental alveolar surgery, complex dental implantation, orthognathic surgery, oral pathology and complex dental extractions.
