Removable prosthodontics on partial dentures and complete dentures

Monday 24 June and Tuesday 25 June 2024 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM each day

Explore the theory and practical steps of complete and partial removable prosthodontics.

For several years, many patients have benefited from removable prostheses, such as complete and partial dentures. Although the incidence of tooth loss has declined markedly in the last few decades, dental clinicians still encounter patients in need of missing teeth replacement. In today’s population, removable prostheses remain a valid treatment option for replacing missing teeth. Removable prostheses are unique, as they replace multiple missing teeth and supporting tissues, improve patient chewing and speech, and restore patients’ appearance. However, the success of the removable prosthesis is largely dependent on its design and the standards of the clinical steps.

This refresher course will simplify removable prosthodontics, focusing on the critical steps for providing a functional, comfortable and aesthetic denture. Update your knowledge and understanding of removable prosthodontics, optimise your skills to increase your scope of practice to include removable prosthodontics, and comfortably manage patients with complete and partial edentulism.

Held over two days, this course is clinically oriented and will cover the theory and practical steps of complete and partial removable prosthodontics. A group of prosthodontists experienced in removable prosthodontics will present lectures on critical aspects for successful removable prostheses followed by hands-on exercises.

Main topics:

  • treatment planning for completely and partially edentulous patients
  • clinical steps for removable prostheses
  • partial denture design
  • complete denture clinical steps
  • immediate denture
  • impressions
  • denture occlusion
  • teeth arrangements
  • implant overdenture introduction.

Learn how to:

  • evaluate and plan the removable prosthodontic treatment for completely and partially edentulous patients
  • understand the minimal requirements of denture impressions
  • design partial dentures
  • perform teeth set-up
  • solve common denture problems.
  • You will gain a general understanding of denture occlusion and implant overdenture.

Crown lengthening in restorative treatment workshop

Friday 8 November 2024 9:00am - 3:00pm

Appreciation of the periodontal-restorative interface is of paramount importance when carrying out restorative, crown and bridge procedures - including Smile Design cases. This hands-on workshop is designed to provide participants with the theoretical and practical knowledge of crown lengthening surgery as part of restorative treatment planning.

It aims to equip the participants with the skills in managing the soft and hard tissues when carrying out crown lengthening procedures.

Learn to:

  • be aware of the various periodontal surgical procedures relating to crown lengthening and plan for better restorative results by considering these procedures
  • identify the benefits of crown lengthening in restorative treatment, such as allowing access for removal of subgingival caries, improving mechanical retention for crowns and cosmetic improvement in excessive gingival display or uneven gingival line
recognise the surgical indications and contra-indications of crown lengthening as part of restorative treatment planning process
  • implement crown lengthening procedures. The hands-on training will address various gingival flap designs, osseous recontouring and suturing techniques.

This online learning and hands-on session will proceed as follows:

  • Online web lectures via learning management system Canvas
  • A short multiple choice questions (MCQ) to cement your knowledge on the lecture topics.
  • Q&A session for follow-up questions at the hands on day
  • Hands-on session. This session is only available to participants who have first completed the online blended learning lectures (MCQ)

Fundamentals of Ceramic Inlays, Onlays & Overlays

Friday 29 November 2024 9:00am - 4.30pm

The dental materials you used in dental school are not the same dental materials available today. With the introduction of new dental materials, and the improvement made in familiar materials, there is a need for dental practitioners to evolve their skills in using them.

Current dental materials allows for a more aesthetic result, while using more conservative practices. However, the key to this success is to understand the intricacies involved with using these materials correctly, to develoop an effective plan and to apply innovative restorative treatment techniques.

This is a comprehensive course in ceramic onlays and the most efficient way in using dental materials. Discover the science of dental bonding and walk through the steps of the cementation process, plus identify common cementation errors - so not to repeat them.
Following an informative lecture, you will than experience a hands-on workshop and immediately apply these innovative techniques discussed, and receive constructive feedback from the course presenter to help develop your skills.

Participants will:

  • have an increased confidence in using ceramic restorations in various configurations
  • have an increasedconfidence in the use and selection of dental materials
  • recieve a didactic overview of ceramic restorations
  • learn a step by step innovative proceedure for ceramic restorations
  • opportunity to practice new methods in a clinical setting

Wednesday 30 October 2024 9:00am - 1:00pm

Learn about common hard and soft tissue defects around both teeth and dental implants. Practise surgical techniques for soft and hard tissue grafting.

First view the online lecture, 'Periodontal soft tissue surgery and grafting' in your own time through MOHTEC's Canvas system to prepare for a hands-on workshop, 'Advanced grafting'.

Learn about each session below.
