This is an on-demand, self paced online module delivered via LMS
Please read the flyer, workshop description and cancellation policy to the left (select the image to view) before registration.
Who is the training for?
Mental health clinicians working with adults who want to learn more about autism. E.g. Psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech pathologists, mental health nurses, peer support workers, etc.
Who provides the training?
This training is provided as a three hour online on-demand module. Developed by Mindful with Dr Emma Radford - Consultant Psychiatrist with lived and living experience perspectives by autistic advocate Yenn Purkis.
What does the training include?
Learn about how autism presents in adults through this online self-paced short course (approx. 3 hours). This module provides education to adult mental health clinicians about autism. No previous knowledge of autism is assumed.
Throughout the module Yenn Purkis contributes their lived experience perspective on topics such as diagnosis, misdiagnosis, and mental health services.
This course aims to raise awareness of the prevalence of autism in adulthood, as well as help clinicians to think differently about their approach to adult mental health so that they are more likely to consider autism when working with adults.
During this course you will learn to:
· Identify how our understanding of autism has changed from the 20th century to the 21st century
· Understand the importance of considering a diagnosis of autism in adults with a co-occurring mental illness
· Identify potential features of autism in adults that would benefit from further assessment
· Identify the potential differences and similarities between the presentation of autism and mental health conditions in adults
· Identify adaptations that may be used to modify mental health practice to better meet the needs of autistic clients.
While completing this module, we aim to update your view of what it is to be autistic and encourage you to consider the possibility of autism when you have a patient/consumer sitting in front of you.
Please note it may take up to 72 hours after registration to gain access to the training.
