As facilitators of parenting programs, one of the most vital goals is to try to engage every person in the group. Sometimes this can present a challenge when working with father figures, whose role is shifting socially and culturally away from traditional passivity towards more equitable partnership arrangements.
This session will explore:
- Supporting and nurturing fathers in parenting groups to take up the mantle of the more hands-on parent, with all the strengths that an involved father figure can provide
- Impacts of emotionally insightful fathers on their children, families and communities
- Emotion Coaching skills as a gateway for welcoming father figures into the ever-changing role of fatherhood
- Strategies to help fathers develop insight into their meta-emotion philosophies
- How to re-balance our expectations to meet fathers where they are in terms of capacity for Emotion Coaching
