Description
The TTE Self-directed Simulator Course offers a comprehensive knowledge base by learning practical transthoracic echocardiography skills to complement clinical evaluation. The course has been designed to use the CAE Vimedix Ultrasound Simulators to reinforce clinical simulator case studies. The participant will learn practical skills in focused transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), also known as focused cardiac ultrasound (FCU) and additional learning that outlines normal and pathology cases relevant to anaesthesia, critical care, emergency medicine, surgery and internal medicine. Master the practical and interpretive skills before practising on patients!
Objectives
- Acquire the TTE views
- Understand haemodynamic State Assessment
- Perform limited valve assessment using 2D and colour flow Doppler
- Putting it all together – performing a focused TTE examination
- Writing focused TTE report
- Practical experience in performing and reporting a focused TTE on a simulator with a wide range of commonly encountered cardiac pathologies
The TTE Self-directed Simulator course is delivered in three components:
- Pre-reading eLearning tutorials and 20 online case studies. This provides the knowledge base to perform and interpret focused TTE. (Approximately 40-50 hours)
- Self-directed Simulator training performed at your institution at your convenience. No need to attend a workshop. Using a personal device as a personal trainer guides you using the simulator to teach yourself how to perform a focused TTE examination. Followed by ten simulated TTE pathology cases. In their own time, the participant will work through a case study, acquire images, interpret pathology, write a report, and complete assessments relevant to the case. (Approximately 10 hours). At the end of this stage, there is an online MCQ exam.
- A personalised online logbook is provided to record clinical activity performed on patients (not a requirement of the course)
Completion of the course requires a 70% pass mark on all pre-reading cases, simulator cases, and exams.
